Turtle Milk – A Family Favorite

A little while ago, McDonalds came out with their Turtle products – Turtle Macchiato and Turtle Coffee.  I am not a coffee drinker but I love caramel and chocolate.  So one day when I was totally exhausted (let’s face it, that is everyday) – I decided to try an Iced Turtle Macchiato.  My daughter begged for a tiny sip… Now I know there is espresso in it but I figured one tiny sip would be fine – except that she fell in love with it.  Frankly, so did I.

I never bought her another one but another day I was alone and went through the drive through and ordered another one.  Except, when they handed it to me I thought it looked too white!  Normally there is a coffee color to it but not this time.  I was going to hand it back but I was in a hurry so I just left with it.  I am sure you all know how that goes – but I was also thirsty so I tasted it just to make sure.  Nope – no espresso.  But it was delicious – hence the evolution of the accidental Turtle Milk.

I can’t seem to get McDonalds to recreate it through.  They say the espresso automatically comes out and they can’t stop it.  When I ask for Turtle Milk for my daughter they can’t figure out what in the world I am talking about.  I say all you need to do is fill a cup with milk and add chocolate and caramel – they can’t seem to get through the fact that I am asking for it without coffee or espresso.  I gave up asking.

Now, we just make it at home and she can have it whenever she wants.  Our Turtle Milk is even better – I am calling it Turtle Milk and you can make it with milk, but we make it with Hood Calorie Countdown which is a dairy beverage that is totally not milk but tastes even better.  We use the fat free and each serving is only 35 calories.   Naturally we pour the syrup down the sides of the glass first to give the dramatic effect that McDonalds has… Now – totally delicious and any time we want!

And what dairy beverage do we use?  We use the fat free Hood Calorie Countdown Dairy beverage but you could easily use the chocolate and just add caramel syrup!   Whichever you prefer.  We choose to add the two flavor syrups since it is somewhat about the visual effect of the syrup dripping down the inside of the glass!

And syrups? Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup and Hershey’s Caramel Syrup
